Lake
Sutherland
Lake Sutherland is located approximately 45 miles northeast of
San Diego, between Ramona and Julian. Once you arrive at Lake Sutherland
you will know you are about to fish in a serine and cozy body of
water.
In 1927, a dam was being built for the sole purpose of having
an abundant supply of water for the rural areas of San Diego. The
project was halted that year and was not completed untill 26 years
later in 1953. The dam was built at the junction point of Santa
Ysabel Creek and Bloomdale Creek. When full, Lake Sutherland Reservoir
has 556.8 surface areas, 5.25 shoreline miles, and a water depth
of 145 ft.
Submerged trees line the shoreline providing a beautiful
setting for all to see. The HOT SPOTS are said to be Mesa
Grande Arm, Santa Ysabel Arm, and The West Bank. The types
of fish that you will find are Largemouth Bass, Bluegill,
Black Crappie, Redear Sunfish, Channel Catfish, Blue Catfish,
Bullhead, and Carp.
